A broken leg, that’s what got me, Steve Sullivan, into the mailing industry some 20 years ago.
I was away for the weekend to the coast, for the wedding of some friends of my soon-to-be wife. I was perfectly sober when, the day after the wedding, I fell down the stairs of the pub and broke my left leg just above the ankle*.
Knowing that I was at home bored, my future wife’s employers were kind enough to give me some work. They were planning their very first mailing and as they did not know where to start, they asked me to look into the logistics of it all and organise it for them.
I did a good job, and discovered a genuine interest in mailings and logistics.
Thanks to that broken leg all those years ago, I found my direction in life, and now myself and my wife Vicky own and run our own mailing house, Rocket DC.
When asked, I usually tell people that DC stands for ‘Direct Contact’. However, considering the scope of work we do, it could on different days be ‘Data Capture’, ‘Delivery Consultants’ or ‘Delivered Communications’.
Direct Mail was where we started, but soon we found that our clients wanted to trust us with more because they liked our work ethic.
Our services now include product sourcing, data purchasing, print and product fulfilment, helping multinationals organise worldwide campaigns for product re-launches (an airline and a software company come to mind), helping local companies with their marketing and timely mailings to coincide with email and social media campaigns.
Our core team of sixteen staff all play a vital role in what we do – everyone at Rocket DC is important to us and we work together as a team to give our clients the care and attention they need.
